I am sure if you have already stayed at Foxton Locks Lodges, no doubt you will have ventured to The Black Horse pub. Located just a 5 minute walk up the village (down hill on the way back so don’t worry about the beers consumed!) towards the church, stands The Black Horse.
The pub overlooks the whole village and across the valley on to the next village, making this one of the best pub gardens in the area. In the summer children love to run around the garden while their parents enjoy sipping their cool beverage in the sun just enjoying the view and keeping a watchful eye on their little ones chasing around the vast garden area.

The pub has two cosy bars and a restaurant which serves delicious food and drinks every lunch and supper. I live even closer to the pub than the cabins so have tried a few of the meals and can guarantee that the lasagna is a firm favourite as well as the scampi and chips! Many guests and villagers have told me that the Sunday Roast is a real treat and very good value for money.
Whenever you arrive at the Black Horse you are welcomed with the huge smiles from Claire and her friendly team who are always on hand to provide you with a tipple of your choice and they may even provide you with a bit of local gossip if you ask them nicely! The pub is also very dog friendly, so if you are bringing your dog on holiday, they don’t have to miss out.
Sunday Lunch
As of this month the pub have also just introduced The Sunday Brunch. This has a set menu as well as a continental buffet option and is served from 9.30-11.30. Perfect for those lazy Sunday mornings when you cant be bothered to cook your own. Foxton Locks Lodges guests are offered a 20% discount on the Brunch.
Tea Room
A new addition to the Black Horse family is the Tea Room, which is situated in the old skittle alley next to the main entrance. Serving breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. They have a delicious selection of homemade cakes, which I challenge you to resist! As well as a tea room they also sell a few essentials that you may need when staying at the cabins from bread, veg, fruit, canned goods, toiletries and few other essentials you may need in an emergency.
But don’t take my word for it but go and check out the warm and wonderful Black Horse, Foxton
